What do you make of this Mustang? Seen in season 2 episode 18 of the Rockford Files

Early 70s Mustang with Cougar or Thunderbird tail lights?

  1. Pretty sure the rear treatment, to include the tail lights is in the flavor of the California Special Mustang offered in 1968. I'd say it was an attempt to recreate it on a newer model.

  2. I believe it's a 1970 Shelby GT500

  3. Kinda looks like a '69 or '70 Shelby to me.

  5. Installing T-Bird sequential lights in your Mustang was a popular custom job in the '60's and early '70's. At least it was in L.A. You could cut the openings bigger in your stock tail panel or there was a company that sold a Shelby style panel that attached over the stock panel and didn't require you to cut up your car. There were a lot of Shelby look-a-likes on the street. I had forgotten about that trend. Thanks.
