  1. Okay, so I went to the link. What do I find? A picture of Donald Rockefeller in 1964. When the Taconic State Parkway was only open as far north as Route 199, we left the Parkway and headed west to U.S. Route 9 to continue north to Rennselaer and then across The Hudson aa north to Lake George, NY. "Doris and Don's Drive-In" on the south side of Route 199 was our treat for burgers and frosted mugs of root beer. I wish that I could find my photo from circa 1957 of them for you. Thanks for the memories.

    1. Who is Donald Rockefeller, why is that significant that you found a picture of him, what does it all mean? Does that have something to do with Doris and Dons?
      Very flustered, very confused
      Help! info! context!

  3. We traveled to the Adirondack Mountains from The Bronx, NY via The Taconic State Parkway. Even after the Parkway extended beyond Route 199, we would get off the the Route 199 exit and head west to their drive-in for burgers and that cold frosted mug of root beer. Then we would return to the Parkway and continue north until we had to switch to U.S. Route 9. Seeing a picture of Don Rockefeller on the link web site for the area, I was thrilled. Of note, there is a clan of Rockefellers in the Columbia County area although i do not know that they are related to the famous wealthy ones. In my younger days (whew!), I also lived for a time in Castleton-on-Hudson, NY and would drive through Columbia County.

    1. in my humble opinion, a burger and root beer is a reason that needs no further motivation to go for a ride. Great food! I'm a root beer fan, and have tried, via a two variety at a time taste comparison, 74 different root beers!
So I can't say what is the best root beer, as there are two ways to enjoy root beer, in a vanilla ice cream float, and, cold as you can get it. I prefer 30 degrees.
So, anyway, my top three choices are Route 66, Highway 101, and Boylan
