Impressive car collection in the Lagano garage...

I don't follow Nascar, or the racers, and don't know anything about them until watching the Netflix series Full Speed, but I spotted the car collection in his garage (very impressive) and when looking for images of them to share with you, see this:

In 2013, Logano formed his namesake foundation dedicated to giving people up to 24 years old a second chance in life. To date, it has given more than $2.4 million to a variety of organizations, including those that help sick children, offer safe places for kids from abusive homes, and assist in housing for veterans. Along with hosting annual charity events, the organization makes 10 donations during the 10 weeks of the NASCAR Playoffs, giving grants to nonprofit organizations in each community where the races are held.

Interesting how being impressed at the young age of 10, by the flight of the Wright brothers, led Roy Chadwick to a career with Avro, and to him designing the Avro Lancaster

Born at Marsh Hall Farm in 1893, Chadwick was the family's fifth generation of engineers. He studied night school at the Manchester Municipal College of Technology (1907-11) while also training as a draughtsman at the British Westinghouse Electrical Company, which he joined as a 14-year-old.

As far as aviation was concerned, he was really in at the beginning, enthused by the new technology from the point when the Wright brothers took to the air in December 1903, Chadwick by then just a wide-eyed lad of 10.

At 18 yrs old, he began his association with Avro, he then worked on various designs in the lead-up to WW1 including the Avro 504, a Great War light bomber and trainer. King George VI learned to fly on one of these when he was Duke of York, while the very first QANTAS was an Avro 504K.

When still only 22, Chadwick designed the Avro Pike twin-engine bomber (1915), the first bomber to have internal bomb stowage and a gun turret, and his rapid ascent continued, for in 1918 Chadwick had become Avro’s chief designer, coming up with the first true light aeroplane, the aptly-named Avro Baby.

Two years later he added the world’s largest single-engine bomber.

A variant of the Baby, the Antarctic Baby, was supplied for explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton’s final expedition to the Antarctic (1921).

However, it was as the designer of the Lancaster that Chadwick would be most remembered. In the late 1930s work had begun on a long-range bomber, the Avro Manchester, which was followed by the iconic Avro Lancaster, dubbed the best bomber of the war and the one used most often for night raids, capable of carrying 10 tons of bombs.

great commercial from Goodyear

near Beaverton Oregon, a Kia Carnival minivan decided they had enough of getting berated by this 21 yr old biker... and it seems they tried to kill him. Maybe he hadn't yet learned just how vulnerable a biker is at 50 mph.... (thank you Kim!)

I just learned there was a Rat Rod car show in Vegas last month... here's a good look at it

I love the comically drawn face on the belly tank, and the perfectly airbrushed shark body wrinkles/creases

Foose has been comissioned to design and build a body for a Duesenburg

A father, his two sons, and a retired Ford employee were arrested in Dearborn for running a massive parts theft operation that targeted the automaker's plants.

various news outlets are reporting that multiple warehouse raids in and around the city of Detroit yielded huge stashes of brand-new parts that were allegedly pilfered right off of Ford’s assembly lines.

the thieves’ inventory was pilfered from Ford facilities in Wayne, Dearborn, and Flat Rock over a period of at least two years. Shahin described warehouses in Detroit filled “from the floor to the ceiling” with brand-new Ford parts ranging from body panels (including hoods and bumpers) to replacement parts (such as tail lights). After squirreling the parts away in their local warehouses, the thieves allegedly sold them on eBay using a Detroit-based front business.

last month, Arias-Tovar was arrested when he was pulled over for speeding and no drivers license.. This week, his daughter was arrested for running a red light, and no drivers license. That's odd... wouldn't you think after your dad gets arrested, for bad driving, you'd be really really careful when driving? But that's not the punchline.

their entire family is in the USA illegally, and has been for 15 years.

Arias-Cristobal admitted to being in the U.S. illegally and does not have an application pending with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, according to DHS.

"Mr. Tovar had ample opportunity to seek a legal pathway to citizenship. He chose not to." DHS said.

And the father and daughter are BOTH in the same jail, the Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Ga., where her father, Jose Francisco Arias-Tovar, is also being held.

I don't wish anyone's life to be utterly changed, instantly, by being returned to their country of citizenship, and origin. My aunt's are from Italy, Taiwan, and Canada. I have friends and co-workers from Cambodia, the Philippines, China, Mexico, etc etc.

I do want people to get into this, or any other country legally, and once in those countries, if they choose to make a new life, to get the legal authorization to stay, with a work visa, a green card, or citizenship through the normal process that at least, the USA has. I don't know if other countries have a process, other than that gold passport that you've probably heard about

I know that it's been widely publisized for decades that Australia doesn't have a open door, unless you're a scientist, or investor, and that Italy and other European countries are welcoming in Hollywood celebs who spend a crazy amount of money there. And hey, that's cool, anyone with a crazy amount of money is welcome to spend it nearly everywhere around the world. It's called tourism. But the homeless, jobless, poor, are simply not welcome to move into any other country, as most countries are bankrupt. Just ask anyone, the USA is 39 trillion in debt.

Nearly half of the countries of the European continent, 40% of the countries of Africa, and 30% of the countries of Asia declared bankruptcy during the previous two centuries.

Ecuador has declared itself bankrupt most times among sovereign nations.

It has declared bankruptcy 10 times.

Brazil, Mexico, Uruguay, Chile, Costa Rica, Spain and Russia have declared bankruptcy nine times during the same period.

Germany has suffered from bankruptcy 8 times in two and a half years, thus coming to the forefront of the major economic countries that have been bankrupt, followed by the US 5 times, China and UK 4 times, and Japan twice.

All states surrounding North Dakota went to an 80-mph speed limit years ago, and now, North Dakota will become the next US state to allow legal speeds of 80 mph ( into effect August 1st) on stretches of multi-lane highway (up from 75)

The North Dakota Legislature turned to South Dakota its southern neighbor for some real-world statistics. South Dakota raised its speed limit on most limited-access highways to 80 mph in 2015. In the years since, there's been no appreciable change in crashes or fatalities.

Minnesota still remains at 70 mph... and that's not likely to change because of the larger population

43 letters from clearly smitten servicemen who'd met Ms Omah Perino at Red Cross dances in Rome in the final months of World War II. Plus comment cards she had written about each guy.

the Autopian.com comes up with some good stuff, consistantly... and today? got me laughing about a smoking jacket and the word "punctum"

Somehow they caught onto this 1971 service manual, and realized the illustrator made the mechanic a guy in a smoking jacket. With a tie.

No one dressed like that has ever reached into the engine bay of a 71 Chevy van

cool Mustang, this Acme Missle... I wonder if this owner is looking forward to the new movie Coyote Vs Acme

I couldn't figure out what the thing is hanging from the license plate... but it looks like a short cable.

here is a van that I spotted today... that is so unusual. It's possibly a bunch of the India/Pakistan? type accent touches that are put on the cargo trucks... and I've never seen anything like this on a commuter.

watching Full Speed (the Netflix NASCAR tv series) and learning about racing in the 2023 and 2024 seasons

and learned that the pit crews are hired from college and NFL football players.

They have the athletic competitive spirit, they are in athletic physical condition, and they are damn fast and precise in their body movements

By the way, it's a riveting tv series.

I didn't know a damn thing about any of the racers, cars, etc. Now? I might be a little bit conversant about Logano, Chastain, Bell, Blaney, Hamlin...

One of the cool stories in season 2, is that of Harrison Burton, the driver lowest in the points, already fired and contract terminated with his team, wins Daytona. And his dad, was one of the 3 announcers in the booth. So, now, he's won, his dad, famous Jeff Burton, and uncle, Ward Burton, welcome him to the family inner circle of race winners, trophy holders. That's cool!

I think this is the 4th cherry blossom art car I've seen this year, and probably the 2nd I've posted. It's nice!

sweet 396 SS Chevelle heading back to Oregon this morning was going slow in the middle lane... and I found out why... the trailer tires were not aligned, it was bouncing around as the tires fought to go straight

I spotted this beast of a tire chock, under a fire truck. Not sure why they don't use one behind the tire too

interesting VW bug hood prop

it's a rod, that's v shapped, and you can see it's not mounted under the hood, it's removed when not in use

this sucks to get in the email.... "we want to know more about you, but, learn more about us, and we're emailing you from a do not reply email address, so... we REALLY do not want to know more about you, we lied about that"

Ain't that some corporate bullshit?

I love a before and after, especially when the people are with the same car, or motorcycle. This couple photographed in the same place, and same bike, in 1967 and 2018

well... this ought to have you wondering... is it good? is it just innovative? I can't guess why anyone that wanted a camper and could afford a Caddy, didn't just get a truck... or an RV

California state's former insurance commissioner Ricardo Lara's taxpayer-funded travel across the world been the focus of an investigation to determine if they had a business purpose of the 'mission critical' trips

"If the insurance commissioner's office isn't able to provide answers as to the government purpose of this travel, I think it's absolutely appropriate for us to move forward requesting an audit so we can get answers for the taxpayers. Again this is about transparency -- it's about good government. It's something that Californians absolutely deserve," Assm. Wallis said.

ABC7 reported earlier this week that Commissioner Lara made at least 46 trips across the country and all over the world since 2019, from the U.K. to Singapore to Glasgow, and Dubai. Receipts show at least 11 fully taxpayer funded 'work-related' excursions to places like Bogota, Paris, and a $14,000 'mission-critical' request to go to Chile.

the President of El Salvador ordered police to arrest five heads of bus companies after they defied his order to offer free transport for a week following a major highway closure.

I like it. The leader of the country wanted the people to get free bus rides, so he paid the bus companies to give the people a ride... and the bus companies still required the riders to pay, double dipping.

So, that's simple theft, and he had the bus company presidents arrested.

So why does NPR hate him?  https://www.npr.org/2025/05/06/nx-s1-5388197/el-salvador-president-bukele-bus-free-transport

the El Salvador Pres had announced that all bus fares for a week would be completely free due to construction the government was carrying out on one of the main highways running through San Salvador.

Seriously, road construction, GOOD. Taking care of the people who have to ride the bus? GOOD.

you probably don't remember the 1978 Dodge Magnum, it wasn't very interesting, not much was in the 2nd half of the 70s. Anyway, I just learned of a special edition, and it's very interesting, because it's based on a Car Craft magazine project! Only magazine project I know of that has resulted

the Magnum Force was born as a project car by Car Craft Magazine.

The latter described the vehicle as "race-oriented and street-worthy through visual touches alone" and used NASCAR's 1978 rule book to enhance aerodynamics. The project car emerged with beefed-up fenders, a front bumper, a big deck-lid spoiler, and a striking stripe package.

Impressed with the car, Dodge decided to offer something similar, and the Force Magnum became available as a dealer-installed package. Owners could also buy the kit separately and install the parts themselves.
