The Erie Canal flowed through downtown Syracuse, New York before the canal was rerouted in the early 1900s and its course filled in to create Erie Boulevard.

  1. Intersting. The Wikipedia entry says the museum opened in 1962. I was in grade school in the Syracuse area between 1952 and 1957. I clearly recall a school field trip to a museum on Erie Blvd where you could put your hands on an inner wall of the canal in the basement. Wonder if it was the same place? My father's office at the time was on Erie Blvd. Near where we lived East of Syracuse there were still remnants of the canal where you could still see the ribs of sunken canal boats.
