a 2018 Corvette Z06 was stolen from a Dallas apartment garage and only a few weeks after an almost-exact replacement was bought, that one was taken as well.

With dogged determination and investigative skills, the owner, Melissa Anderson, has uncovered an auto theft ring that has left her apartment garage empty of 12 luxury cars that were once there, and she is on the hunt for the thieves.

“A guy with a McLaren parked adjacent to me, and a Lamborghini, Ferrari, and Bentley were parked nearby. I figured of all of these cars, mine would be the least likely to be stolen anyway,” she says.

Anderson caught the car bug when she was nine. Her dad was taking her to the library when a “red beast blew by us," she says. “He said, ‘I think it was a Ferrari.’ I asked him how to spell it and wrote it down in my coloring book and when I got to the library, I said to the librarian ‘I want a book about this.'”

Melissa Anderson is a self-professed car nut “There are people who love their cars. There are people who are insane about their cars. And then there’s me”  (oh yeah? Do you even blog? Lol)

Her first sports car was a Dodge Daytona she bought with her own money, and she worked her way up and saved money to buy the $90,000 2018 Corvette Z06. It was exactly what she wanted. It was stolen in Feb 2021

It took her two months of scouring the internet and every source she could find to get a replacement for her ‘Vette that was stolen.  Finally, she found one and parked it in the garage on April 22.

When going through the police reports, Anderson noticed that 11 other high-end cars were stolen from the same garage this year.

To no one's surprise, the police didn't realize the garage was the target of car thieves. Obviously police aren't in the habit of paying attention to, nor preventing car thefts by capturing car thieves. Ironically, Dallas PD has an Auto Theft Unit, well, it's obviously useless, blind, and pathetic when it can't observe 11 vehicles stolen from ONE garage is a problem they ought to be working at stopping

But then, her apartment management and security guards were too incompetent to prevent car theft also, in light of the fact that there are closed circuit cameras in the fifth-floor garage, AND security guards who patrol the garage AND the concierge running the desk  (seems like way too much security to not be complicit in the car thefts!)

Anderson catalogued the 11 car thefts this year: three Cadillac Escalades; four Corvettes (including her two); a Chevy Silverado; a Chevy Tahoe; one Jeep Cherokee; and one vehicle not identified in the reports.

  1. It sounds like an inside job, if the thieves were able to get a tow truck into the garage to steal the first Corvette.
