there is a good overall look at, and brief write up, at https://www.powernationtv.com/post/the-2022-ford-maverick-is-the-perfect-light-work-truck where I learned that the Maverick will be a couple inches shorter than the ranger, and only have a 4 foot long bed. Plus, the base model that they are advertising strongly on, as being the cheapest truck out there, is front wheel drive.
So, it's not a truck. Front wheel drive truck? Nope. Golf cart. Front wheel drive, 4 door, gold cart.
Might as well get a Polaris side by side.
Using the name Maverick on a truck seems wrong for some reason. If they wanted to use a classic Ford name I think that using Ranchero would have been more appropriate.
ReplyDeletegreat example. We all know that the Maverick was a car, and there is no reason to make this truck have ANY connection to that car.
DeleteAlways get the top trim model. I used to have a Jeep Patriot in the top trim. My boss rented a car for us to make to drive to a retirement event and it was a base model Patriot. I could not believe the difference in comfort. The seats in the base model are one hour seats at best.
ReplyDeletethere's a lot of upgrade, in most models, but damn they get really pricey for the top trim level of each model
DeletePersonally I see no resemblance to the glory days of the Ford Ranger from the 70's through about 1996. Simple, cheap, ran forever and easy to work on. But it was just for people who needed a truck, not a status symbol.
ReplyDeleteExactly, there is none. This Maverick, has very little difference to the new Ranger from what I can see, and that full size Ford truck Ranger from the early 70s certainly had no visual styling cues that were used on the 90s Ranger.
DeleteOh well, I suppose the upper management at Ford simply wanted to re-use old names, and bring some dazzle back to the Ford sales... with the new Bronco, Ranger, Lightning, and now Maverick, oh, and the flop Mustang E-SUV
Well, not sayin' it's a great choice, but the last Maverick was built in 1977! No one in that commercial, and probably very few at FoMoCo, even remember what a Maverick was. (How could 1977 be 44 years ago? God I'm old!)
ReplyDeleteno manual trans or RHD availability sadly.
ReplyDeleteEh, could be worse, they could have made an SUV Mustang. Oh, wait...
