wouldn't you think that if you're going to land at some bush air strip, they'd at least clear out the hazards that will snap off your landing gear? 'Cause that airplane, now? Ain't ever leaving. Bad piloting choices on landing

August 1, 2019. A DC6 Everts Air Cargo tore off starboard landing gear at a remote location in Alaska

the airframe was a total loss. They salvaged what they could for parts.

  1. (In my best Bob Uecker voice) 'coming in juuuusst a bit outside.' IMO the key contributors are those local yokels sitting and gawking right where this very big aircraft needs to flare, that pickup absolutely should not be where its parked. The pilot would have been okay if he could have put his wingtip right where those people are standing. Instead he clips the berm on the side of the approach and its all over.

  2. Then of course there's the old saying; "any landing you can walk away from is a good landing". Unlikely that the parked truck did anything to influence the landing. A plane like that touches down at 150+ mph, and flies straight in onto the landing strip no matter what. Ask any pilot about that.
