even 50 years ago, a lot of cars from different manufacturers looked the same , 1971

  1. On the Hemmings blog one time one of the editors posted a picture of a large parking lot from the 1930's when someone was complaining that modern cars all look the same. You can really see the Ford DNA between the Maverick/Comet and the Pinto. Nothing quite beats the Maverick in its latter days for sheer bland anonymity. But Ford being Ford, they managed to exceed our lowered expectations by taking the decade old underpinnings of the Maverick and plopping upon it that rolling repository of awfulness the Granada-and then tried to tell us it looked like a Mercedes.
