do you remember the billion dollar fiasco in Europe, where electric cars could get replacement batteries, a nearly instant recharge, back in 2013? The replaceable battery idea is a good one, and back for round two to try feasibility in the USA

skip the moody stupid useless first 23 seconds, get right to it.

Does this address the salt water vs electric car problem that hurricane Ian reminded us of? Nope.
Does this change anything about California having only enough electricity to stay out of a black out during a heat wave as long as no one turns on the washing machine? Nope.
All the problems of electric cars have to be solved still... this only reduces the time stuck at charging stations, IF TESLA gets in on this.

  1. If you get the average household power consumption in US and compare to the average electric car power consumption vs average daily mileage, you will find that, to a fully electric car adoption, the US will need to DOUBLE the actual power generation. Are you seeing any new plants being built? To me this is the definitive argument.

    1. not new power plants using coal or oil, not even nuclear... but solar and wind farms yes. just not enough. Hybrid with a minimum of 50 mpg will likely be the compromise, instead of the electric car new car sales only by 2035 that California and New York are promising

  2. It's a good idea, but there are a couple of issues I see with the system -

The electric cars would have to use common battery packs. No option for larger packs for longer range or different size batteries for smaller or larger vehicles.

How would this work during the winter in Northern states? Do they just pull the car in with salt and slush all over the bottom? Or do they have to wash and dry the cars before swapping batteries?

They say it only takes up the space of 2 parking spots. That doesn't leave much space for storing and charging batteries that are swapped out of cars.

If you go to YouTube, the comments are turned off for the video. Probably too many people like us questioning the concept.

    1. the simple solution is the right one. Yes, common interchangeable battery packs, that was already stated.
Not enough range to suit long distance drivers? Tough. Suck it up buttercup, you're going to stop for recharging no matter what. Go stretch your legs and try some local food.
Best case, really larger vehicles get more than one of the identical packs. Just like semi trucks get 2 12V batteries.
Yes, they can pull in with slush, does anyone still salt? I dunno, I've been in the tropics or desert since 1989.
Or the battery swap place is a warehouse sized place, that does at least a fast rinse and blow dry, because hey, everyone likes a clean car, and just do it.
As for storing and charging, there's always building UP! Or underground. Ever work at a Sears tire place? Under it all is the tire storage warehouse, it's HUGE! I did, I loved that job
Heck yes turn off comments, do you have any idea how much time I spend every day on comments? For 52,500 posts! Daily!
