I've never heard of the Twizy, probably because there weren't many made, and they were a flop. Plus, not many people want a Renault that can't be repaired if something fails, which isn't street legal

  1. But they are road legal! Only this specific F1 version is not. I've rented one in Barcelona, Spain. Honestly, it's more of a toy you can drive in the streets than a car. Looks like there are a completely new world of cars to you to discover outside the US borders... :D (it's a joke, please don't get mad at me...)

    1. I had to mention this one isn't road legal. You agree.
See? I say the truth, you agree.
Others are road legal, BUT I am not posting about them, they are not at auction, they are not what I am discussing.
I don't post many Renaults, most are not interesting.
Not mad at all... I agree with you.
I bet it's fun to drive!
BUT, I can not afford to travel, to visit, to be a tourist and see what amazing vehicles are all over the world, and I think you know I enjoy them all!
I post tuk tuks, rickshaws, gravity racers, spinners, drifters, etc etc.
I like so much, but, can not afford to see them in person.
If you know of a rich person that will be my patron and pay for me to travel to blog about everything, YOU KNOW I WILL!
I will go to Brazil! Mexico! Uraguay! Venezuela! Spain! Italy! France! England! Ireland! Everywhere people have racing, wheels, and engines! Tractors! Mining! Everything!

  2. It seems to me like you have not heard of the Renault Twizy because you live in a market in which Renault is not a player (also you don't seem to care for electrical cars).
The car in your posting about is a special version that was made by Renault as a marketing tool. They built this car with the same intensions as the F1 engined Renault Espace they built years before. The original Twizy was a sales success. It was the best selling electrical vehicle in Europe around 2013-2016. I believe they sold over to 30,000 of them.
Granted we are talking about a very small (smaller than a Smart) electric car meant for urban European customers and I understand that your taste and preferences are not anywhere near that kind of vehicle...

    1. yes, not in a market where Renault are selling, not interested in new electric cars (love the ones 100 years ago, like the Baker electric) and this is the sum of small production number, newish electric car, only sold in Europe. It's clearly never been in the international news enough for me to ever learn of it

  3. One of these was sitting at the traffic lights next to me yesterday. I'm from South London in the UK.

    1. I'm curious, is London a city with a fee for entry, or a fee if you do not drive an electric car? I heard a couple of the biggest cities over in Europe, like Paris, were not off limits to combustion engine powered vehicles

    2. Oh boy, that's a mess. I've lived in London and you can easily get confused about that. There's the congestion charge (CC), the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) and the Low Emission Zone (LEZ).

The CC applies to a small area, basically the 'downtown', and you pay £15 (US$17) a day to drive by the downtown on day hours. You pay £1.50 if you have an electric or live there.

Then the ULEZ applies for most of the city (around a 10 mile radius), where you pay £12.50 ($14) to drive if your car is older than 2006 year. Operates 24h.

And you have the LEZ, but it's for old big semis/lorries and costs between £100 and £300.

In short, if you are rich and drives a McLaren P1 or a Ferrari SF90, you pay little to nothing because you live in a rich area and drives a hybrid. A regular person driving a Ford Fiesta will pay more. London is the english version of California.

    3. thank you for the info! That's incredibly taxing on the average Joe! Yeah, it must be nice to be rich...

    4. London is a rich place for rich people. If you try to live there and you are not rich, you have to accept to be humiliated. You won't have a car and will pay half of your salary to live in a small room sharing a house with a dozen strangers. That's why I left that crazy place. Now I can have 4 cars, in a 3000sqft house with space for more.

  4. As others have said, the regular Twizy was not a flop for what it was, because what it was (legally speaking) is not a car. It is an L6E or L7E Quadricycle under EU vehicle classification. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quadricycle_(EU_vehicle_classification)#Light_quadricycles_(L6e) ..like Kei cars in japan, it is a vehicle for a specific niche even within the EU, mostly the French domestic market. They make less sense in other EU countries due to various local things, but still sold a few in places that'd normally never consider stuff like a Ligier or Aixam. It's pretty hard to justify one over a twist and go moped/scooter really.

The Citroen Ami is a newer big car manufacturer take on this niche area, but is a better thought out vehicle in my view.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citro%C3%ABn_Ami_(electric_vehicle)
