The Boston Herald indicated that 472 of the state’s 5,229 bridges were deemed “structurally deficient,” according to Federal Highway Administration data.

Today, the River Street Bridge in Hyde Park (Boston) will be closed until further notice because the  Massachusetts Department of Transportation made the call to shut it down after inspectors discovered beam deterioration.

The Sumner Tunnel in Boston will begin major repairs and reconstruction next month, for three dozen upcoming weekends, then for four continuous months next year, and then for another series of weekends in late 2023.
