The construction class at Westerly High School in Rhode Island built a bus stop shelter for boy who uses a wheelchair, because unlike most kids, he can’t run outside at a moments notice to hop on the bus, and had to wait in the rain sometimes

The structure sits at the end of the driveway of the boy’s home, allowing him to wait in comfort for the bus that will take him to school

Someone might ask, "what's this got to do with 'things with wheels that are cool'"?
I answer, the kid is in a wheelchair, and now people did a cool thing. Ergo, things with wheels, that are cool

  1. No need to justify this post to anyone who doesn't "get it".

  2. Who on earth would question the reason for this post?

    a) It has wheels, and
    b) based on past replies, you just don't mess with Jesse...

  3. Jesse, that post made my day.
It's nice to be sharing the planet with the students who designed and built that shelter, their instructor and the little guy himself. Also good to know that there are still some shop classes out there...
    Thanks again.

    1. You're sure welcome, it makes my day to make your day, and others peoples. Good news like this is too rare, and every chance I get to share some I do. Life is mostly harsh, and it's rare to have the good fortune that allows any of us to rest for a moment, enjoy some art, or be able to look around until we find things we can appreciate.
Getting past the life of desperation and survival, and lifelong debt, to just past that and have the luxury of easily available food, more than enough sleep, a bit of savings, friends, and the arts (music, photography, painting, poetry, dance, theater, writing) is something not everyone lives long enough to do.
I rarely see the news, as I don't watch tv with commercials, not cable, not open broadcast - and I don't read the newspaper. So, I also don't get flooded with the daily horrible news that is an unending river of depressing stuff.
Even rarer, is a cool bit of news like this.
And good news that makes a kid in a wheelchair a bit more comfortable?
Hens teeth and gold egg laying geese.
So, it's my pleasure, pride, privilege, and joy to find and share great things like this.
If you find some, pay it forward

    2. I stopped watching anything with commercials years ago, and I also stopped watching the news years ago. hardly read any news on the internet either.
its all overly dramatic to get clicks and eyeballs.
news used to be about what happened, like Walter Cronkite delivered,
but now its all about the money, the more clicks on the story, the more money they make.

  4. Wheels and cool both in evidence enough here. I also note that it's a pretty nicely thought out shelter, with a touch of style, what appears to be a radiant heater, and a nicely placed little shelf. A worthy project in every way.
