How does it cost $13 million a mile to built a railroad? Are they laying in birds eye maple ties? Gold plated rails?

It's about 60 miles from Boston to Manchester NH.

Why that needs a passenger train is unknown, but the estimate is 13 million dollars per mile, thats about 2500 dollars a foot.

That's ridiculous. Who's profiting so ridiculously, and how many student loans do they need to pay of, in addition to country club fees and vacation expenses to the Four Seasons?

  2. No idea how they arrived at 13m per mile but there are a lot of things that do go into something like a new rail line that most of us are unaware of. Corridor Studies, Purchase of Right of Way, Environmental Permitting, Bridge Design & Construction (because every road you cross now has to go over under), purchase & maintenance of rolling stock, maintenance equipment and facilities, all of the politicians who always want their cut, you know- for the good of the people.
