Hudson NY soapbox Derby days of the late 50's and early 60s

  1. Great photos and story! Hudson is still a place to visit but its heyday is long gone. There are buildings from the 1700's still in active use. In the 1950's, it was a bustling city. U.S. Route 9 (New York to the Canadian border) ran through town in a winding fashion to the frustration of motorists. We would easily lose half an hour in traffic in Hudson, Then, the miracle! The state of New York, I think it was they, built Route 9H, The Hudson Bypass. Today, we go there for nostalgic visits and good food. In the surrounding countryside are mansions to visit.

  2. Never involved in the Derby, but I sure jonesed for go kart like the one in the 8th pic in the mid-50's. Never got one! They never let me have a motorcycle five years later either!
