Top photo is Rod Coppins. Bottom photo is Red Dawson. Both former NZ champions and historic legends of New Zealand motorsport. Definitely exiting the Pukekohe Hairpin.

    1. Serious racing ability is just about 25k. A suspension and tires set up, plus engine trans and gears rebuild, then brake upgrade. It's what the Optima Challenge cars do... heavens knows I don't have 2500, much less 25000. Oh well, it's my little dream for my R/T too. One little step at a time. The ignition and fuel system are done! Lol, next, replace my radiator that sprung a leak after 50 years. Oh if they only knew they overengineered that radiator for 2wice the needed lifespan!

    2. I guess you and I think alike Jesse. Just a little fantasy for me too. 😉 Yes, that's when they built things to last regarding your radiator.

  2. These two photos look to have been taken at the hairpin corner of the Pukekohe race circuit near Auckland, New Zealand. In that era imports to New Zealand, especially of American cars, and parts, were heavily restricted and only a few could afford them. The economy has been gradually freed up over the last 30 or so years and New Zealand is now one of the least restricted in the world as far as imports are concerned.
