Another idiot democrat is trying to make things illegal that aren't a problem, likely because the politician hasn't been educated that the USA is the land of the free, home of the brave, and has "liberty" written on every piece of currency in their possession.

Democratic Sen. Lauren Book introduced SB932 in the Florida State Senate on Feb. 17.

drivers would be banned from allowing "a dog to extend its head or any other body part outside a motor vehicle window while the person is operating the motor vehicle on a public roadway."

Instead, the legislation suggests drivers transport dogs via crate, or have their pets restrained with a harness or pet seat belt. If neither of those options are available, the dog could be held by a passenger in the car who is not the driver.

Notably, the bill specifically bans drivers from holding dogs on their lap, or having dogs sit in front of them while riding a motorbike.

  1. The only part of it I actually agree with is the bit about not letting the dog sit in your lap while driving. Seems like a person any with common sense and a sense of self preservation wouldn't need a law to tell them to not have a dog between them and the steering wheel.

  2. I agree about not having a dog on your lap while driving. I see that a lot and I think it would be distracting and could possibly cause an accident. I don't think a law is required, just some common sense. And it is probably safer for a dog to be restrained or in a crate if there is an accident, but we've had several dogs over the years, and only our first one rode in a crate in the car. I wish that first dog had been in a crate when she vomited in my back seat the night before I was leaving on a business trip. It would have made the cleanup a lot easier!

  3. Democrat or Republican is irrelevant - stupid is still stupid.
...And we don't need another law specifically referring to dogs on laps. Any LEO will happily tell you that's obstructing the driver's control of the car and is probable cause for a stop and ticket. Of course they won't do that because they're all deathly afraid of someone posting an artfully edited internet video that makes it appear that they're abusing the dog and/or driver.
