You are correct. The 88mm gun has been removed and the two parts of the carriage have been pushed together.
In this picture, you can see the reels and boxes mounted to the fenders and the barrel support that one soldier is holding against the side of the fender.
I find it looks like the(two part) gun carriage for a German 88mm flack gun.

I believe those are the gun carriages for the dreaded 88MM.
