great article about how bankrupt exotic extremely expensive car companies have always been

a good example of a well written article

  1. So my daily driver, a 2007 Mini Justa (that's a Mini Cooper that's not an "S", it's "just a" Cooper), has over 260,000 miles on him. He's starting to loose his smoke and I figure he doesn't have a lot longer to live.

So what do to as a replacement?

Would love to get a 1st gen Clubman. But as reliable as my current Mini has been, it's an expensive car to maintain.
Been toying with the idea of a Prius (can't believe I'm admitting that).
The MPG would be even better than my Mini (currently 38), and repairs be hopefully less(?).
But I have another more important reason. Maybe it would free up some cash to get the old TR6 running again.

Reading this article might have pushed me to go that direction...at least maybe when the Mini finally dies.

    1. Toyotas have been a sure bet for quite a while. Nearly all companies are stuck with numerous recalls, but as for word of mouth reliablity and best MPG, Toyotas seem to be the way to go. Everyone that HAS a Prius likes them. Ugly, yup, but if you're looking for decent MPG, a Prius is pretty good, and without the constant recalls of Ford, Chevy, and Dodge. Mike just bought a Camry hybrid or Corolla hybrid, loves it, and gets 53 MPG on the freeway I think he said, and that's 15 mpg better than the last Prius I heard of

    2. When I lived in California, the TR was my daily driver. But that's not something I want to do here in Wisconsin. Not because of the cold, because of the salt.

So instead of having a cool car to drive year round, the Prius could be my "winter beater" and I could use the TR6 when the roads were clean.
