I was born to late to see anyone actually rosin a track,

it was a part of the show, and probably because tires weren't yet as highly developed as they would soon become after the golden age of drag racing.

  1. Did the drivers have to prep the track themselves?

  2. No, rosin was allowed to the racers that were the headliners for that given race. Those teams had the mechanics, helpers or owners who would apply the rosin. Your everyday racer had only a short time to get to the line for their pass. Later racers started using Clorox, then finally water when they realized it all worked the same, get 'em spinning, get 'em hot.
