Dropping off your new ZL1 Camaro at the dealership... who would expect they'd have a yabo grab the keys and smack a telephone pole with it? What if the dealership refused to replace it?

John Hooper wanted some paint work done at First State Chevrolet..  instead, one of their young hot heads went for a joy ride. And crashed it.

Hooper argued he deserved a similarly low mileage example in return, however First State denied responsibility for its employee’s actions, resulting in an impasse.

Since the story was picked up, First State has felt the wrath of the internet. Its Facebook page was filled with hate, and they received abusive phone calls to the dealership.

Berger Chevy and GM former execs weighed in, and First State finally gave in.

  1. In the mid-60's I was 19 and working as a line mechanic in a fairly large independent repair shop. After a speedo repair I took a customers 327/365HP Corvette for a test drive. Punched it on a corner, slid over a curb and clipped a sapling. Cracked an aluminum wheel and and the right rear fender.

Shop made good on it, but I was looking for another job the next day!
