and attract the attention of the police.
The county seized the gold... because the guys in the country illegally, stated clearly, that the backpack with the gold? Didn't belong to them.
The county used some of the gold to pay the suspects' attorneys as part of a civil settlement and will use proceeds from selling the rest for law enforcement purposes, DA Tonda Curry told WFAA.
That is in Wills Point in Van Zandt County about 50 miles east of Dallas. Have been through there several times when I lived in the Fort Worth area in the 70s. Still miss that area! All of those Texas cops catch those types of guys on a regular basis. My now retired Fort Worth cop was on the US Marshal's taskforce and they caught a bunch of drug dealers, gun runners and other things. Always excitement being around him. Just so you know it's wise not to drink with a bunch of cops and it can be a rough night. I'll have to thell you about that sometime.
ReplyDeletenot drinking with cops, is wisdom, truly. I was an MP for 3 years between sea duty on subs... I have ALWAYS been around hard drinkers. First as a kid, growing up with an alcoholic family of dad and uncles and all their buddies, all Nam vets and Yoopers - who also pride themselves on drinking hard. Then a decade among sailors, submariners, MPs, and other drunks and morons.... and since then, a lot fewer drunks and meatheads.... but still, car guys, you know? Lol.
DeleteI bet your Ft Worth retiree had some INCREDIBLE stories, and wish more guys like him would write books about all the crazy and amazing stuff they experienced on duty
