Have you heard of Daniel Macdonald? Known to his 13 million TikTok fpllowers as Daniel Mac. His videos have a simple concept: He approaches people driving expensive cars and asks them what they do for a living. It's that simple, and it makes him $100k a month.

If you’re baffled that a young person could make millions by asking rich people what they do, filming it on their iPhone and posting it on social media, I get it — think about how wealth has basically always been a fixture in media and pop culture.

Magazines are focused on it, Forbes, GQ, etc. Tv shows were focused on it, Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. Now podcasters are making millions on nothing else, simply talking to celebs.

“Part of the absurd genius of what Dan does is combining the eternal fascination with extreme wealth with a simple question that can be repeated over and over,” she told me. “The responses are eye-opening, wide-ranging and occasionally ludicrous — ladybug breeder and professional cuddler are a few of my favorites — and they’re packaged in entertaining bite-size videos perfect for social media.”

He’s trying to maintain relevance by broadening his schtick — he’s asked yacht owners and first-class-airline passengers what they do for a living, for example, and is working on a new video series featuring wealthy homeowners in their mansions. There’s also a video podcast in the works, and he’s hosting a car rally next March — tickets to that event cost $3,750.

    1. thank you! Just one reason I am annoyed by outsiders/rookies/noobs being unchaperoned in what I feel is "our field" "our realm" of car guy stuff.
Stepping on their cranks while being so damn annoying when trying to glom onto the rich, famous, or celeb in the car guy world. The Hot Rod 75th anniv book pisseed me off in this way, not knowing how to spell Burt Munro, AND Elena Scherr. Two well known people, one a frickin legend that Anthony Hopkins played in a Hollywood movie for gods sake.
And this young hipster (with a genius way to get rich, I'll credit him that) bumps into a legend in the damn supercar world, and doesn't know who the hell he is talking to.

  2. I did not consider him as "one of us", he is not a car enthusiast at all. He can tell a difference between an obviously expensive and an affordable car, that is all. But I bet he have no idea how expensive a restored classic car of an affordable brand - VW, Toyota, Datsun, Honda - can be. He is just making good money of being disrespectful. His camera and mic protects him from insults - or he is just throwing those records away where he is being told what is his business and what is not. I don't want to be hypocritical, to be honest with you I had no idea how Mr. Horatio Pagani looks like before seeing this video, but at least I am not the guy behind that camera.
Writing a book or article and make such a mistake is so unprofessional that it hurts, I agree. How professional the publisher is, if there was nobody in the production chain (copy editor, editor, etc.) discovered the author's mistake? Burt Munro is one of my automotive heroes too, so I feel your pain. And yes, that movie is great!
One of my die-cast collector friends made his Indian from scratch in about 1:64 scale. He was in his early twenties back then, I really admire his talent:

  3. This guy should hang out at the televised car auctions. Find out what all those ancient white guys did to be able to overpay for that iron.
