a thorough look by the LA Times at the change in usage, and gross pollution, of Van Nuys airport, the busiest general aviation airport (public use without scheduled commercial service) in the country

private jet traffic has exploded in the heart of the San Fernando Valley, it now has a jet taking off or landing about every 7 minutes, no curfew, for total of about 200 flights a day, and about 70,000 a year.

How is that still falling in the certification of non-commercial? The charter jets are an FAA loophole, and the surge in numbers of ultra wealthy in the LA area, have made it the go to airport since Santa Monica shortened it's runway, and Gulfstream relocated its maintenance and repair facility from Long Beach Airport to Van Nuys
