Michigan's Isabella County Sheriff announced via Facebook that deputies won't be responding to non-emergency calls to save money on fuel. Rising gas prices are the final straw for police expenditures

the reason for this was because the county had "exhausted what funds were budgeted for fuel with several months to go before the budget reset."

Gas only costs about 5.25 a gallon in Michigan.

I wonder how screwed the various govt departments in California are right now, when the price of gas has DOUBLED since last year.

It's 8 dollars a gallon, in California, which HAS OIL FIELDS, AND A REFINERY.

That seem odd to you? That a state that has one of the largest oil fields ever found, has THE highest price of gas in the country? Or, that the country with oil in Ca, Tx, Ok, Pa, Ak, NM, Az, and how many other states that I can't recall, has seen the price of gas triple in the past 3 years, from 2.50 to 8 dollars a gallon.

Might not have any connection to the pressure from the democrats to get electric cars. The democrat gov of California has made it clear that internal combustion engine cars won't be sold in California after, what, 2030? 2035? I can't recall.

  1. A lot of school districts and city/county governments have to be struggling with the price of diesel fuel. Their budgets are probably based on fuel prices that are about $2.50 / gallon lower than today.

  2. The government has very little say in oil prices, that's the result of a free market economy. The oil companies have been exporting US oil since last October. Sold to the highest bidder on the world market.

    1. I think you are mistaken. The natural resources of the country, including mineral rights when referring to the price of oil, belong to it's citizens, as many countries have established.
Example, the national parks, the woods on public lands, the waterways, lakes, rivers, etc. All belong to the people, and are run by the govt. THAT is why you must pay for a license to drive, hunt, fish, trap.
SO, why do oil corporations get the profits from the oil, from the vast oil reserves under the USA?
They made a deal with the govt, and the govt bastards did the citizens WRONG, and we don't benefit from the sale or production of oil.
Politicians do, oil corporations do, and stockholders do.
Am I wrong? Or right? The govt DID have a say, and sold out, relinquishing control of the oil. Unlike the FCC screwing us on tv and radio with censorship, the FAA screwing us with regulations on flying (try and send up a drone to enjoy the view from over your neighborhood in a city, or the beach) and other examples of SOLID govt control over everything about certain realms of public domain.
Am I wrong? Or am I right?

high gas and diesel prices affect , directly or indirectly, every thing we consume and hurt the poor people the most.
plus , cops are always looking for any excuse to not do anything, and this is prefect. I bet they will still be parked running their speed radar traps though, wonder how much gas it burns to full throttle from a stop to 130 to catch someone doing 12 over, all day long ?
