Back in the 70s a new rotary dump system was developed that allowed for much faster unloading. It made use of rotating couplers that turned on a train long axis that ran through the longitudinal center of the drawbar. The entire train thus remained coupled while unloading, thereby speeding the process considerably. Some power plants had the hardware to handle three-at-a-time dumps, making the unloading time even shorter.
