the Ark Angel, nose art painted by it's pilot, with matching jackets for the crew

The nose artwork on ARK ANGEL was painted by Linus J. Box, its original Pilot with the 491st BG. This is a rare color photo from WW2 that is in focus, and shows nose art....

The Linus J. Box Crew all had similar artwork on their flight jackets, one of which is now on display in the Lone Star Flight Museum, in Galveston

The pilot, L Box, and the co-pilot, R Hall, were high school class mates

The Box Crew finished their 30 missions, then the David Bennett crew took over, and it crashed on November 26, 1944 after attacking Misburg Oil-plants near Oerie.

The ARK ANGEL crash site was discovered several years ago by German Thomas Pohl on his grandfather's farm near the village of Oerie.

The pages on www.oerie.com deal with the circumstances of the crash, the search for family and friends of the crew members and research for information about this crash.
