So, I suspect these gimmics were possibly useful when guys balanced tires with a bubble, at home, in the barn... but must have been made obsolete with digital computer based wheel balancing machines

    these things actually work.

    its the same as using ceramic balancing beads in tires,

    and a lot of folks with large tires use airsoft pellets inside the tires for balancing
