In addition to establishing the EPA, the Nixon administration created Documerica, a six-year-long photo project like the FSA photographers, with about 100 photographers in all 50 states documenting pollution..







Public interest in addressing pollution more than doubled between 1965 and 1970, with approximately 70 percent of individuals polled said that they considered air pollution a somewhat or very serious problem

 In 1974, Documerica had already amassed 80,000 photos — many of which are available for view in the National Archives
