Amelia Earhart tests out a rubber life raft before setting off on her record-breaking solo Hawaii to California flight.
She planned to survive on tomato juice, chocolate and malted milk tablets until she was rescued. She didn't need any of it. BTW, malted milk was not considered a candy at that time.
