Smoking outdoors is now effectively banned in Encinitas (San Diego beach town) after the city council unanimously voted to expand restrictions to sidewalks and parked cars.

That goes for cigarettes, vaporizers, e-cigarettes and cannabis, making it one of the toughest laws in the state

Outdoor smoking in Encinitas was already prohibited at parks, walking paths, beaches and parklets.

Smoking is still permitted in moving cars, on private property and in about 20% of hotel rooms in the city.

No doubt it's still legal to smoke cigars at the golf courses where those city council members spend a lot of time discussing the 8th hole par 5 (or whatever golfers talk about when smoking cigars)

Oh, I posted this to point out that it's now illegal to smoke a whatever IN YOUR OWN CAR, TRUCK, or SEMI in this liberal haven of left wingers

    1. Wow, a Mencken quote! Sweet! I recently bought his book, the American Language and supplement Vol 1 and 2, and I just need to make time to read them!

  2. I am not a smoker. I DO BELIEVE in our rights to enjoy these pleasures. Thanks again for pointing this out. This idiocy did appear in our local newspapers, surprisingly.

    1. I believe in that definition I once heard that our fundamental human, and American constitutional rights, were to enjoy living, as long as we did nothing to harm anyone else. I figure that extends to drinking, smoking, drugs, extremely dangerous sports like skydiving, riding a motorcycle without a helmet, etc.
Unfortunately, the nanny types that are focused on making the world in the way THEY want people to behave, are also focused on getting into political power, and staying there, ie Pelosi and Feinstein, and do nothing but infringe on anything that hasn't been legislated on yet

  3. This is the reason that everyone with a brain resists any kind of "common sense gun control"
they have seen what happend with smoking, it started with smocking sections in resturaunts and now the govt thinks they can tell you that you cant smoke in a parked car?
Im hoping the first person charged with the crime of smoking in a parked car sues and fights it.

meanwhile, the same govt ignores homeless drug addicts that set up tents in public parks and poop on the sidewalks,

i am not a smoker, but this is the reason revolutions and civil wars start. the govt just wont leave the people alone,

    1. damn, that's a shocking point to make, I hadn't realized. They do nothing about real problems, on the same street, because those problems are not financially viable. You can't fine the homeless... they have no income. But smokers are wasting money on cigs, so, obviously, they are good targets for fines.
Plus, cops aren't willing to get upclose and personal with the homeless...
I betcha a homeless person living in a van, smoking while sitting in it, won't be bothered, but the tourists will be.
And for some reason, homeless seem to be a majority of smokers
