I miss those goofballs, the Stig, and their zany adventures on the original Top Gear

  1. When I'm watching Top Gear or Grand Tour, I wonder who builds the cars that they use for their competitions. I assume that they have a staff that buys and modifies them. Even though the boys talk about the cars as if they did it themselves, I don't believe that. Maybe for the ones where they go out and buy a car that fits a certain cost or style of car, they might. I couldn't find anything on the internet about it. All I could find was an engineer/inventor/YouTuber named Colin Furze who built a James Bond car and motorcycle powered bumper car for TG, but those were both recent. He does some interesting things on his YouTube and Instagram channels.

    1. in a couple of shows, or specials, they sort of subtly mention that they designed the goofy cars mods, but do the work? No, they get the contractors/employees of Top Gear and Grand Tour to do the work. Multimillionaire old guys, especially Clarkson, aren't welding, bolting, and modding.
They are drinking wine, eating steak, and drifting Mercedes.
They might give some input, discuss some fun jokey parts, but they didn't work on the cars

  2. the old BBC episodes are quite funny and entertaining.

I had never watched it , until about ten years ago someone sent me a link to the episode where they tried to kill the toyota diesel pickup and couldnt.

so then we started watching other episodes, and we had to go to a friends house who had figured out a way to make the BBC website think he was in the UK. because at that time the episodes were not shown in the US ?

and my wife, who cares nothing about cars, would watch the shows with me, just for the laughs.
these three nuts might not get along in real life, but they were the perfect combination for the show. there is no other possible combination of people that would have worked out better.

Kind of like Seinfeld or Frinds TV shows, they picked the perfect cast.
