I don't normally share the news that sucks, and probably shouldn't right now... but the guy that died this morning deserves some respect for being a good samaritan

A 20-year-old U.S. Marine (name unknown until next of kin are notified) who was stationed at Camp Pendleton stopped to help a driver of an SUV who had crashed into the center divider and rolled over on southbound I-5 near Las Pulgas Road south of San Onofre, at about 3:20 a.m, Monday died after being struck by an oncoming truck.

The driver he stopped to help was later arrested on felony charges, California Highway Patrol said.

While the Marine was aiding the two passengers, a box truck crashed into the SUV, CHP said. The Marine was critically injured and died despite the efforts of Camp Pendleton firefighters who responded to the scene.

It's deplorable that some moron in a box truck wasn't able to avoid being fixated on a crash, and ended up killing the Marine, who was trying to save lives of unknown people who'd flipped their SUV.... I hope all of you that can advise other drivers, will reinforce the drivers education fundamentals, slow down, give a crash a lot of space, DON"T DRIVE HEAD FIRST INTO A WRECK

This has been a PSA, and respect for a 20 yr old with a promising life ahead of him, who was serving in the Marines.

Fwiw, Adam Driver, was a Marine at Camp Pendelton, the movies Diamonds Are Forever .. Heartbreak Ridge... Battle Los Angeles... Sands of Iwo Jima... The Fighting Seabees and others had scenes filmed at Camp Pendelton, as well as Steve McQueen's sand dunes and beach dune buggy scenes in the Thomas Crown Affair.
