being a tire guy at Sears was a cool job, I really liked mounting, balancing, and installing tires. I'm pretty sure that if all else failed, anyone that has been a tire guy could get a fallback job as a tire guy again. Of course, the machines have changed a lot, most places get newer computer type balancers every 20-30 years I suppose.
One of my kids was a Sears Tire guy for a while. The start up the ladder until he became a skilled overall mechanic with a bunch of certifications, enough that when the Sears garage went under, he could find another job quickly. He'd been unemployed for a while, frustrated when nobody called back. He heard about a job at Sears, and they called back.
