a collector collects, then dies, and the collection once again gets scattered across the world for other collectors to pick from to build their collections, and so it goes on over and over. Thanks Doug M!

Alan Pooley’s pursuit of petroliana was purely sentimental, but the collection of more than 500 automotive artefacts that he amassed during three decades of buying for love not money is so remarkable that it could fetch up to £65,000 at auction. Including over 250 oil cans, 60 two gallon fuel canisters

The first of several auctions of this collection will take place on 23 October at Cheffins Saleground, at Sutton, near Ely. Bidders can bid online at www.cheffins.co.uk
