drag racing on dirt? How the hell are you ever going to get traction or prevent shredding the soft compound slicks on the gravel? At Kopuku, the very first drag strip in New Zealand. It operated for just three years. (Thanks NZ CarNerd!)

  1. That is at Kopuku, the very first drag strip in New Zealand. It operated for just three years. In that era New Zealand was still very much 'car starved' due to quite severe import restrictions, so anything in the way of specialist drag racing equipment - car, and speed parts etc - was almost unobtainable. 2. If you go to this facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/groups/642607519153649 - and put Kopuku into the search box there are quite a few pictures there. Some from Alan Porter who was a professional photographer at the time.
