When it comes to opening any business at all, what would be the easiest to do? Certainly nothing with food and cooking. That requires all the restaurant clean inspections, etc.
But a gas station? Find a piece of land that you can get zoned for business, and permits for tanks either above or below ground, add a couple pumps that weren't very expensive, and a small office... have one person man it to sell gas, and you have yourself a business that is also in high demand regardless of the economy.

I miss those neighborhood stations. You got to learn a lot from them growing up. And if you were lucky, you passed it on to the kid who came in behind you to do the same.
