Cool things with wheels since 2006
Can't help but think that there were some bolts on the garage floor that someone thought they didn't need. Or maybe he's trying to re-create that scene with the Police car in American Graffiti-sans chain.
Al, that's funny. But, pretty amazing catch with the ol' video cam. That must have felt really weird when the rear end broke loss. Not to mention down right scary.
I can't tell you how many times I've watched this. It blows my mind. Maybe it was sabotage?
I think it was just torque twist on the axle finding the point where acceleration and the weakest point in the rear suspension had a shootout. The suspension, in my for what it's worth opinion, had a metal fatigue, or rust enhanced, failure. Or maybe simply sheer point of a leaf spring plus harmonics of vibration, and with the hoodscoop on that Dart, I bet he was packing serious serious power. I'll guess we have all seen a lot of these failures at the drag strip launch. I know I have. The video certainly make it clear that the dart was pouring on the power from about 25 mph, when it all went kablooey
Yep, this is why ladder bars, etc. were invented. Torque will always show you what the weakest link in your drive train is-with broken parts.
I've watched this also a hundred times. I've always asked myself what the drive shaft when the rear end fell off..I mean this thing is loose and actually can shred everything in its vicinity...
