they stuck a gold mine when they designed the Beetle... it was nearly perfect right of the blue prints, though it needed a bigger engine. But stylistically, and engineering-wise, they nailed it


fenders and bumpers that are easy to replace after a collision




With an engine in back, not damaged in a head on collision, and aircooled... and it can be pulled out and replaced by one mechanic working alone? Sweet

    In the early 70's I had a 1950 beetle I swapped a Model A coupe for. It looked identical to the one in the pictures. I got hard up and sold it. Being stupid, I had a front wheel come off and it put a barely visible crease in the forward cowl. I'm pretty sure it's the one in the Garlit's museum from the crease.

    And to think it was something Der Fuhrer insisted that Ferdinand Porsche build for the masses. Strange how something so unique and have such a following could come out of that dark time in history.
