(not fact checked) In 1878 Amédée père designed La Mancelle, which is regarded as the first automobile (steam powered, not gas) to be put into series production, 50 being manufactured in all.
News to me and interesting. In 1769 two steam-powered automobiles were made in France. They were monstrosities. One was sold to the Tsar of Russia. Neither can be found. However, in 2009 in Florida, with a budget of three millions dollars, a replica was made. It is worth finding the video and saying "Good Grief," but it was produced.

Not a production run, even as limited as 50, is a run of a model. So, this La Mancelle gets the distinction of not being the 1st, but the 1st production run
