  1. A little brake history for you. I knew a lady who spent her working career with an association independent of but supported by automobile manufacturers. The purpose of the organization was to determine the minimum standard of brakes needed for each car of each newmodel year. I would assume that this started in the 1920's. This lady retired from her work there in the late 1960's. I have no idea if such a private enterprise exists today.

    1. intriguing! Once there was a brake analytic company/organization that existed long enough to retire from? Quit teasing me. I WISH companies in the automotive field lasted long enough to retire from! GM pulled that bankruptcy so that they didn't have to pay pensions! (as a side benefit)
Enough humor, so, anyway, that must have been needed to make sure that the govt could give DOT approval that each design of vehicle and brake system were compatible, and that the brakes would be effective.
There must have been other organizations that did similar testing, sort of like Underwriters Labs, but, I think that's a thing of the past. Maybe, so is Consumer Reports. OR I've just not had a life that included the UL and CR, and similar test facilities.
      Thank you!
