That is a baby Range Rover Evoque, of course. The full size Range Rover is a far larger vehicle. But your point remains valid, the Mini is far from miniature!
there's a reason we liked the small originals, the 64/65 Mustang, the original 50s and 60s Mini whatevers, Austins, Coopers, the Italian one I can't recall the name of, and the Morgan - the original tiny Morgans, not the new ones they make today - are they a 2+2, or 4+4? Anyway, even the Ranger (1990s era, not the full size 1960s) was a good small truck, and so was the Tacoma, now they are both full size. Anyway, I don't like the bloat.
"always"? I doubt that. Example, Mustang. Did they sell more in 66 than 65, more in 67 than 66, more in 70 than 69? Or Camaro, same years Or Chevelle? El Camino... Torino... I bet they sold more small Fairlanes than large Fairlanes etc etc
I think using the world "always" opens the topic into an argument, as nearly every time there is a trivial example that proves some statement wrong. See "mammal" definition, then look at the poison barbed duck billed egg laying platypus. Mammals don't lay eggs, have poison, or duck bills. Murphys law applies almost everywhere
I've read a lot of interesting stuff on JACG, but I never expected to read a discussion on the duck billed platypus. Totally agree with you about car sizes and ESPECIALLY the Mini. I've been on the ... erm ... generously proprtioned side all my life but I never had any trouble fitting in the original. The new version is a Mini in name only. And while I'm at it, cars have become ever more bloated over the years, but, certainly in the UK, parking spaces? Hah!
Oh wow, that's a real problem... parking spots don't ever get bigger, they DO get smaller when parking lots try to repaint, to increase the number of spots by 4 or 6 more... at the cost to the customers with nice cars that do NOT want to be door dinged!
I guess in America cars have got smaller over the years (I'm thinking of things like 50s Cadillacs) while in the UK they've definitely got larger (see comments on the Mini). So I can understand, a bit, that they might try to reduce parking space sizes there. Over here I often struggle to exit our Kia Picanto (not exactly a land barge) due to the size of the monsters in adjacent spaces.
He just has thick bones.

ReplyDeletemodel bloat is real
ReplyDeleteThey just can't leave a good thing alone. "If it ain't broke, DON'T FIX IT!"
