I liked the book, but not the movie. I thought that the efforts of the security chief to get ahead in a tight security govt system, and the last chapter or so when the main character, John Goodboy Tyler had to pull off the meeting where he convinced the aliens that he could do magic, was just terrific reading. Forrest Whitaker was well cast, but Travolta just over did it like he'd been challenged to act like he was pretending to be John Wayne - pretending to be the character
I saw the previews of this movie a couple months ago and I didn't think it looked that bad. Still haven't seen it yet. No doubt it's in the stores on DVD. Seems like from movie releases to DVD sales is very quick now a days.
