Without "Emergency Contractual Procedures" it takes weeks, instead of days, to replace a small 50 foot bridge 15 feet over a dry river bed.
That is pathetic.
Now that the westbound bridge is open and being used by traffic for both directions of travel, work is being performed on the eastbound bridge to get I-10 fully operational. Work on this bridge consists of complete demolition of the existing eastbound bridge and replacement utilizing accelerated bridge construction techniques. Channel work including placement of rock slope protection to protect the bridges will also be performed. Project cost is currently estimated at $5 million. The completion goal of the new bridge is late September 2015.
