Photos of roads like this cause me to wonder about the guys who had to build them, were they annoyed that it couldn't be straightened out? Or, happy to have a challenge, something unusual for a change that wasn't just straight and level
alot of the roads were , when first constructed, a one lane dirt road, and the model Ts and wagons didnt have a problem with the curves, and with no bulldozers to move the dirt, it was like railroad, much easier to make curves and go around the hills than flatten them.
Most times, multiple "S" curves are done to keep speed down.
