Fred Rogers' mom mother knitted sweaters for WW2 soldiers from Pennsylvania who were fighting in Europe

She regularly volunteered at the Latrobe Hospital. 

Initially dreaming of becoming a doctor, she settled for a life of hospital volunteer work.
