Thank you Bill Watterson for T-Rex's in F-14s! (with Triceratops kill markings!)

this is the incredible artist that created Calvin and Hobbes comic strips. One of the greatest of all time. No kidding. In just 10 years, he eclipsed the work of Charles Shultz, Walt Kelly, and all the rest

  1. I'm still entertained with his genius and humor. A great cartoonist with wonderful imagination. Why he never did a movie about Calvin and Hobbs I'll never know. He really should.

    1. I've read that he didn't deal very well with the overwhelming amount of fame, publicity, and instant celebrity status, and just wanted people to enjoy the cartoons. He decided that there would be NO merchandizing of the comic strip, no stickers, shirts, stuffed Hobbes tigers, nothing.
He just lives a hermit life and paints. Doesn't do interviews.

    2. That's to bad for those of us who loved his work. Yeah after only ten years of the strip he just walked away, didn't want anything to do with it. You can still get soft cover books of the comic, so he must still be connected to it in some way. Maybe.

  2. Having grown up in both the wonderful worlds of the Peanuts and Calvin & Hobbes, I note the main similarities: 1) Small bodies and large heads. 2) Intelligent texts (ok, Bill Waterson called it quits in time, Charles Schultz didn't). 3) The Peanuts' cast of characters reflected a time when people had two, three or more kids, while Calvin as a single child is more in tune with current demographics.

    1. well, I'll be darned, that's a very astute observation! They certainly did reflect the eras. Even the thoughts and overall storylines did... Calvin with playing in the woods, by himself, the Peanuts were playing ball as a gang.

    1. Yup, I looked forward to getting the newest years worth of Calvin and Hobbes in the annual big softcover book.
Did you know you can get the hardcover boxed set? I recommend it. Also, the Farside, total collection, hardcover, boxed set.

    2. I also recommend Zits, as it's pretty close to what I think Calvin would be like as a teen.
For something a lot cuter, and closer to the easier to enjoy Calvin and Hobbes, I recommend Mutts. A cat with a terrific personality, and his buddy, a small dog that often keeps the cat from the most trouble he can possibly get into.
