Each year Waternet, Amsterdam's Water Authority, fishes between 12,000 and 15,000 bicycles from the canals.

  1. Ah, the Dutch and their bicycle thefts: A family member in Amsterdam told me, that the easiest way to get a bicycle is to stand at a red traffic light where there's a lot of bicyles. Then shout "OI! THAT'S MY BIKE!", upon which at least five guy will drop the bike they're on and run. You then pick the one that suits you best....
