cargo trains are getting hijacked in Arizona, and the BNSF Railway, has requested the government take action

In the past few months, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Arizona has prosecuted at least 15 individuals for allegedly being part of schemes in which trains are brought to a sudden, dangerous stop and looted, and stolen merchandise is hauled away to California or Nevada.

Will Johnson, chief special agent for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway and vice president of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, said cargo train thefts increased 40 percent in 2024 in comparison with 2023, totaling more than 65,000 cases.

Heists surge dramatically since 2023, with most incidents occurring along California’s Interstate 40 route.

On January 13, a BNSF officer discovered 1,000 pairs of Nike shoes beside the tracks. Police inserted trackers, recovered $202,500 worth of Air Jordans, and seized more shoes.

In April 2024, authorities retrieved 1,200 pairs of Nike shoes valued at $226,000 successfully. Two months later, they arrested a gang leader and reclaimed $3 million in goods.

Meanwhile, in July 2023, police found 904 Turtle Beach headsets worth $600,000 in a truck. They also seized $48,000 in Nike Dunk Low shoes and Disney-themed Squishmallows recently.

Warren Buffett, worth over $150 billion, acquired BNSF through Berkshire Hathaway in 2010. The railroad spans 28 states, earns $24 billion yearly, and nets $5 billion annually.

And yet, not a single local news station, not a single photo, etc. No evidence that this is happening (online) except the railroad corporation who don't seem to have any security, defense tactics, etc, despite about 175 years of operations in the wild west fending off bandits, thieves, robbers etc.  I think this proves the only challenge the railroad companies can attempt to deal with, are hobos hopping a train ride
