the 'March of Transportation' mural is 20 feet high by 450 feet long and was painted on the inside wall of the Ford Building for the 1935 California - Pacific Exposition and chronicled human ideas and methods of transportation throughout history.

the artist's name was Juan Larrinaga, he had worked with his brother Mario on several films like King King (1933) at RKO pictures painting backgrounds and miniatures.

He was a naturalized U.S. citizen who had worked as a set designer on Cecil B. De Mille’s King of Kings and White Gold, and worked at Columbia Pictures as matte artist for some years. He also contributed as scenic artist on many films and had an extraordinary career as mural painter and architectural renderer.

the last panel is the artist's idea of what the future might hold.

see really good detail sketches that planned it out at https://www.flickr.com/photos/sdasmarchives/50409366327/in/photostream/  and some very good photos of the restored painting https://www.flickr.com/photos/sdasmarchives/albums/72157662730490845/page2
