What do you make of this?

  1. My first thought here is that it's not as serious as it is for show. Of course one can surmise that there are some more off-roady tires in storage for when needed, but having had three of those XJ's, I wonder under what circumstances one would need all that extra cooling. Is there some non-standard engine in there? And how is that front bumper actually attached? The XJ uniframe has a single, and necessary, way to attach tow hooks or auxiliary bumpers in a way that will not tear it apart (a reinforced hole with a through bushing). It's not clear whether that's used. And how serious is that big roof rack, attached as it is to the factory crossbars? I am at a loss to understand the hood cables.

It looks like a pretty nice Jeep, but I'm suspicious. A Box-stock XJ can handily negotiate terrain that leaves paint marks and random pieces of other vehicles behind, and I'm sure that this one, with a mild lift, can go all sorts of places, but I somehow doubt that the visible modifications do much to improve it. Not to say I wouldn't like to have it. But I think I'd change the front end and put a winch on it, and I wouldn't take it as currently shod anywhere near the depth at which that snorkel would be needed.
